CNN imposing new rules on Russian Federation stories

The story tying Scaramucci, who played an important role in Trump's White House transition team, to the Russian firm was built around a single anonymous source.

Mr Trump tweeted: "Wow, CNN had to retract big story on 'Russia, ' with 3 employees forced to resign". Monday, three employees-reporter Thomas Frank, assistant managing editor Eric Lichtblau and head of the investigations unit Lex Haris resigned over the article.

The network has had an oftentimes adversarial relationship with President Trump, who has called CNN "fake news", "very fake news" and the "Clinton News Network".

Trump brutally attacked CNN for being "FAKE NEWS", yet it was CNN who made a decision to remove it because of a lack of confidence in the sources. Tuesday morning was no different, as Trump criticized the network for its "phony Russian stories" and said that its ratings were down.

- Jeff (@JeffTutorials) June 26, 2017 Fake News CNN is looking at big management changes now that they got caught falsely pushing their phony Russian stories. CNN also apologized to Scaramucci.

The story was posted on the network's website on Thursday and was removed, with all links disabled, on Friday night.

A spokesperson for CNN did not immediately respond to a request for comment. "Ratings way down!" the president said.

The story connected entrepreneur and Trump ally Anthony Scaramucci to the alleged investigation into the fund.

And I think if we would have behaved that way with President Obama and scrutinized everything that he was doing with as much scrutiny as we apply to Donald Trump, I think our viewers would have been turned off. CNN accepted the journalists' resignations Monday. "There are multiple other instances where that outlet that you referenced has been repeatedly wrong and had to point that out or be corrected", Sanders said of CNN.

O'Keefe's secret videos only served to reinvigorate the anti-CNN storylines already across conservative media, giving life to more stories about CNN being "fake news".

President Trump himself, however, offered a more gloating response.

He said in a statement: "On Friday, CNN retracted a story published by my team".

CNN, in initially taking down the story, said it didn't meet its editorial standards. The botched Scaramucci story was the second botched Trump-Russia story this month in which Lichtblau had played a role.
