Back to back champs: Penguins beat Preds 2-0 for Stanley Cup

Roughly two minutes separates Pittsburgh's top pairing from its bottom pairing.

"We wanted to come up with a way to cap off the Predators' last home game of the 2017 Stanley Cup Final in the most unique and memorable way", Steve Mayer, NHL Content Officer and Executive Vice President, says.

Rinne, meanwhile, was back to his home-ice self early in Sunday's matchup, halting nine shots from the Penguins, including a line drive from Conn Smythe victor Sidney Crosby in the final minute of the first period.

Matt Murray and the Penguins' defense stood strong all game.

They may not play in the most traditional of hockey markets but the latest playoff run suddenly has the fanbase, some who occasionally throw catfish onto the ice during games, expecting a victor rather than being content just to have a team.

Confidence is the last word you would have used in describing the Predators play at PPG Paints Arena for Game 5.

After Nashville misfired on its extended power play time, it almost scored with about six minutes left. Is that enough motivation to put them on top and grasp their second championship in a row, and third this decade?

Then they killed the rest. Nashville's 6-0 loss Thursday was the NHL's fourth of the playoffs by at least six goals.

Around town, many jumped on the Predators' bandwagon, driving television ratings for both home and away games to numbers never previously seen in Nashville.

Carl Hagelin iced the game just over a minute later with an empty-net goal.

Even after dropping the first two games of the best-of-seven Final to a Penguins team featuring some of the NHL's most lethal scorers, Nashville stormed back to even the series but ran out of gas and were held scoreless the next two games. Now he's not taking part in #preds optional before Game 6.

Fleury backstopped the Penguins to nine of the 16 wins for the Cup. Here's the latest on the Penguins vs. Predators #Game 6 including matchup odds, as well as how to watch the game live on TV or streaming online.

The Predators really did do just about everything right in the first period.

As nuts as the first period was, the second period started even crazier.

The referee thought Penguins goalie Matt Murray had the puck but it had actually trickled just behind him and into the crease where Sissons had what should have been the opening goal.

The refs proceeded to try and correct the mistake by making several others.

Pittsburgh had two close calls in the final minute of what was the best period yet of the Final series but were denied by Predators goalie Rinne and hit a post seconds later. And still, the Pens kept the Preds off the scoreboard, killing off another penalty.

Not only was it his second consecutive shutout against Nashville, but he also made history as well.

The Predators know exactly what they need to do better against Pittsburgh. Still, the score remained tied. However, the officials waved it off, saying the whistle blew before Sissons scored, as the crowd booed lustily. Malkin has three goals, one assist, and Kessel has one goal, three assists. Sissons recorded a hat trick in the clinching Game 6 of the Anaheim series.

It seems like nearly every ardent National Hockey League fan is predicting that this Stanley Cup Finals will go the full length of seven games.
