Kellyanne Conway, White House counselor, has told The Associated Press that Dubke handed in his resignation before President Donald Trump left for his global trip earlier this month.

Days after President Donald Trump's first overseas trip, the contentious relationship between the news media and the White House was on full display.

While the White House downplayed stories about the Russian Federation investigation, officials did their best to tout the President's recent trip to the Europe and the Middle East. A special counsel is now investing whether Trump's associates may have colluded with Russian Federation during the campaign. Before joining the White House in February, he had been a Republican strategist and founder of Crossroads Media.

According to advisers, however, Trump is finding it challenging to recruit new aides as he considers casting off old ones.

Ivanka Trump was spied on the White House South Lawn speaking with the legal team's chief, Marc Kasowitz, on Sunday afternoon. Trump has entertained bringing his former campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski, and former deputy campaign manager, David Bossie, more formally back into the fold. "Throughout the trip, that was the common thread - that uniting the Muslim world, talking about it with (Israeli) Prime Minister (Benjamin) Netanyahu, talking about it even with the Pope, that wherever he went on this nine-day trip, protecting our country, protecting the world's people was at the front of that discussion", Spicer said.

President Donald Trump is still on the hunt for a new Federal Bureau of Investigation director after firing James Comey, and is conducting more meetings to address the vacancy. The president has joked repeatedly with Priebus, whose mother is of Greek descent, that he would send him to Athens as ambassador to Greece.

Bossie told "Fox & Friends" in a separate interview that the administration has reached out to him but hasn't offered him a job.

Dubke, a veteran of national politics for a quarter-century, was among the aides who have struggled to impose discipline on the president. Dan Sullivan when he ousted as an incumbent in Alaska in 2014.

Dubke is parting on good terms, according to a senior administration official cited by Axios. Just under three months later, he submitted his resignation, but his actual date of departure is not yet known.

Dubke said in a statement it had been an honor to serve Trump and "my distinct pleasure to work side by side, day by day with the staff of the communications and press departments".

"It's one thing if you're working at a place where your skills are appreciated", a friend said.

Priebus issued his own statement thanking Dubke for his service. "Mike will assist with the transition and be a strong advocate for the president and the president's policies moving forward".

"He has expressed his desire to leave the White House and made very clear that he would see through the president's worldwide trip", White House adviser Kellyanne Conway said in an interview on Fox News, referring to Trump's first overseas trip to the Middle East and Europe that ended on Saturday.

Trump has privately and publicly pinned much of the blame for his administration's woes on the communications effort.

On Tuesday, Trump worked behind closed doors, interviewing candidates for a new Federal Bureau of Investigation director and discussing whether to withdraw from the Paris climate agreement with his EPA administrator.

Spicer pushed back Tuesday on the idea that a broader reorganization was imminent, but he acknowledged the president is frustrated with news stories "that are absolutely false, that are not based in fact". As Spicer put it Tuesday: "Ultimately the best messenger is the president himself".
