"But I tore my ACL in my second year (in 1988) and I ended up playing (16) more years". After missing the start of last season, Charles returned to play in only three games, carrying 12 times for 40 yards, before requiring more operations on his knees.

Elway drafted a running back, De'Angelo Henderson of Coastal Carolina, in the sixth round.

Per USA TODAY's Tom Pelissero, the Vikings will decline quarterback Teddy Bridgewater's fifth-year option.

However, this now means that Minnesota will head into the 2017 season with two quarterbacks in the final year of their deals.

Minnesota's coaching staff is expected to move forward with quarterback Sam Bradford, who showed promise in his first season with the Vikings.

If Minnesota had made a decision to pick up Bridgewater's option, he would have been guaranteed around $12 million for the 2018 season. If he spends all of next season on the physically unable to perform list, Bridgewater's contract will roll over to 2018.

The Vikings also announced Monday that they have agreed to terms with 13 rookie free agents.

Meanwhile, the Vikings on Monday exercised the fifth-year option on the contract of linebacker Anthony Barr, the ninth pick in the 2014 draft. Jackson was an undrafted free agent signed last May.

Minnesota general manager Rick Spielman declined to comment Saturday on Bridgewater's situation.
