Pep Guardiola has taken Manchester City on the right direction, according to Khaldoon Al Mubarak, the Chairman of Manchester City. "He is an absolute must", Al Mubarak said. There has never been any doubt about that. "I've read a lot about the speculation on this and it's ridiculous".

'Unlike any other league in the world, you have seven or eight teams who are top level and 20 teams where frankly you can play any team in this league home or away and neither match is easy.

But Khaldoon insisted in the strongest possible terms that Aguero's City future has "never been in doubt" and that he will not be sold this summer.

Toure's future is still to be confirmed, with his contract set to expire at the end of June, although sources have told ESPN FC that club and player are close to agreeing a one-year extension.

The Chairman recognised the season had been "disappointing" in terms of not winning a trophy but that there is a focus on the new young players the club has signed to change that.

Al-Mubarak said he was encouraged by the progress made in Guardiola's first year in charge despite City failing to win silverware or maintain a significant challenge for the Premier League title.

'If I look back at this season that puzzle wasn't complete and I hope this summer we support Pep in completing that puzzle'. "The results will come - I have no doubt the results will come".

"Pablo Zabaleta represents for me the essence of Manchester City".
