As luck would have it, the adoption of Eastwood to the family of Pistons coach Stan Van Gundy would have never happened if the Labrador had been adopted during the "Empty the Shelters" event last weekend.

Tuesday morning, Eastwood met the Van Gundy family and is on his way home with them.

You remember this dog that was the last one left at a MI animal shelter?

Eastwood is a special-needs dog, and was the only pet left behind at a Humane Society event last week before the Van Gundy's stepped up and gave him a home.

"We had just lost a 14-year-old dog who had just passed away in March, so my wife Kim thought it was basically destiny", he said.

The dog who was the only one left at a MI animal shelter after pet adoption day last month has finally met his new family.

The shelter and the Detroit Pistons captured every minute of the adoption.

After Eastwood's story went viral, about 80 families joined the Van Gundys in trying to adopt him.

Kim Van Gundy also came prepared with treats - which Eastwood went insane over.

The friendly pooch was born with an eye defect and a leg deformity that may someday require surgery.
