Kyle Busch wins All-Star Race for first time

Busch has won eight times in 24 starts at the 1.5-mile speedway in the NASCAR XFINITY Series.

"I think if we could have had a 20-lap run, maybe I could have caught him", Larson said. "I thought that we had a great shot at winning the All-Star Race, but didn't work out that way". I could see a million dollars out the windshield and I just drove this Lowe's Chevy way too hard in the corner a couple of times and gave up some ground. There is reason to celebrate big.

So there's hope yet for Charlotte, Busch's crew chief Adam Stevens says.

When it comes to NASCAR's All-Star Race formula, the only constant is change. I just stepped on the gas at the right time and held the vehicle together in the right lane. "Just so relieved, elated, proud and excited all at the same time".

On the final lap, Dale Earnhardt, who had been in a battle with Kyle Petty for the lead, lost control of his auto, spun, and made contact with the wall. Busch held off a good challenge from Jimmie Johnson and Kyle Larson to secure the was Busch's first-career victory in the All-Star race in his 12th attempt. And it just didn't happen. Busch prevailed over polesitter Kyle Larson - who dominated the first two segments, but restarted fourth for Segment 4 after Keselowski did not pit.

"We had the best auto out there, for sure", Larson said. But I'm just really disappointed, obviously. You know you're not gonna get many people from the West Coast to fly out here for the All-Star race, I don't think. "I feel like our team is really smart now and we can make the right adjustments". You know we weren't quite the fastest auto, but we made the right changes when it mattered most.

- NASCAR's annual All-Star Race will take place on Saturday night at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

How Busch Won: He was able to move into the final 10-lap stage thanks to the average finish Busch put together in the opening three stages. If the choice is made to use the softer tires in the final 10-lap sprint that carries a $1 million purse, then the driver must line up behind any drivers who stay on the prime tires for the segment's restart. If the driver is a past All-Star race victor or Sprint Cup series champion then they can compete. "Anytime you can win here at Charlotte, it's in front of your friends, your family and your fans and everybody in the close area of the race shop". "They said, "Oh, second is good". Logano took the spot based on a higher finishing position in the third stage.

(6) Dale Earnhardt Jr., Chevrolet, Eliminated, 60.

Busch used an aggressive three-wide pass for the lead Saturday night to take the All-Star event for the first time. Harvick qualified third, one spot ahead of Johnson.

Each of the 20 teams had one set of softer tyres - for better grip and, thus, speed - available to use at their discretion in the 70-lap exhibition race.

Goodyear provided one set of "green-lettered" softer tires to each team, and the rules were so complicated that one team ended up driving with green letters on one side and the traditional yellow letters on the other. There's no guarantees. We're certainly putting the pressure on ourselves to make sure we get it all done.
