California [U.S.A], May 18: Roger Ailes, one of the most powerful television executives in the U.S. and the former chairman and CEO of Fox News died at the age of 77 today.

"I am profoundly sad and heartbroken to report that my husband, Roger Ailes, passed away this morning", Elizabeth Ailes said.

Elizabeth Ailes described him as "a loyal friend to many" in her statement on his death.

Last July, Ailes resigned from Fox News under pressure from Murdoch amid multiple sexual harassment allegations against him. Multiple women came forward past year to report sexual harassment accusations, including prominent host at the time, Megyn Kelly.

Ailes would go on to work with politicians such as Presidents Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush before turning his attention to television with a stint at CNBC from 1993 to 1996.

This was not the case however with Sean Hannity and Rupert Murdoch, who both released lengthy statements about the man they worked side-by-side with for two decades.

And he made a point to smash the haters who were playing "checkers" while Ailes was "playing Chess 5 steps ahead at a whole other level".

Hannity joined Fox News after issuing the statement to expand on his admiration for his former boss.

"Many people out there would say that he saved this country by starting the Fox News channel", added anchor Ainsley Earhardt.

"Deeply saddened by death of Roger Ailes".

That allowed him to then launch his own network, America's Talking, which was not as big a hit, but did lay the groundwork for Fox News.

That October, Ailes flipped the switch on Fox News Channel. Fox News still sits in the number one position for cable news at this writing.

A miniseries about Ailes, titled Secure and Hold: The Last Days of Roger Ailes, was already in the works at Showtime, based in part of Sherman's book.

Since Ailes' exit, Kelly and Greta Van Susteren have left Fox, and O'Reilly was sacked after a sexual harassment scandal of his own (his victims had been paid to keep quiet).

"RIP Roger Ailes a good friend, great American and communications genius @StoneColdTruth", - author and political adviser Roger Stone.

However, it is now impossible to look back at Ailes' career without also considering the massive stain left on his legacy in the wake of numerous sexual harassment allegations. "He has changed dramatically and forever the political and the media landscape, single-handedly for the better".
