Fergie sticks up for Wenger; claims Arsenal pressure in unfair

Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny will serve a three-match ban and miss Saturday's FA Cup final against Chelsea after the Football Association rejected an appeal of wrongful dismissal.

"The club has always considered that pricing for the Europa League would be different from the Champions League so we have reviewed our approach for next season and have applied a discount on your season ticket for the Europa League element", the club said in an email to season-ticket holders.

To make matters worse, Gabriel was carried off on a stretcher during the second period with a serious-looking left knee injury.

It was the first in a string of defensive blows to hit Arsenal on the final day of the Premier League season.

"It [Koscielny's dismissal] was harsh but we have to accept the decision", Wenger said in quotes reported by BBC Sport.

Should the former Valencia man miss out, then that would leave Wenger with just two full-time centre-backs - Per Mertesacker and young Rob Holding. The total is decent if you look at it over the years.

Missing out on a place in the Champions League added further fuel to fan unrest against Wenger, who is out of contract at the end of the season.

"It is annoying but we had a spell during the season that was hard and it was hard for me in my personal situation". We are professionals and part of being professional is to perform when the environment is not positive.

"I was focused on my job".

"I'm not sure that was the case for every single one out there so that's perhaps something we need to address". "I think the club has a strong foundation, a strong organisation and everything to be one year out and come straight back in, like Chelsea did last season".
