Once known for her shocking performances of twerking and dangling naked from a wrecking ball, the singer performed the slow-burning love song "Malibu", without much of her signature in-your-face sexiness. Miley, we love you more than ever. "Just sayin'", she announced.

The rapper's son CJ Wallace told the audience: "I know my father's looking down on all of us tonight".

The emotional performance by the singer who lost her husband René Angélil to cancer past year earned her a standing ovation. Miley even got emotional at the end of performance, as balloons rained down on the crowd.

Nicki Minaj opened the show with a almost 10-minute hit medley as she sported a bondage-inspired suit of spikes and cuffs, while Celine Dion marked the 20th anniversary of the Hollywood blockbuster "Titanic" by singing its theme "My Heart Will Go On".

Hudgens showed off her rapping skills with cappella versions of singer Celine Dion's "Power of love" and Minaj's verse from "Monster".
