Wenger's men have won nine of their 10 matches across all competitions when deploying wing-backs, after winning four of the previous 10 (two of which came against Non-League sides).

Wright believes Arsenal should have singled out Wenger's eventual successor some time ago and now fears what the knock-on effect could be if the Frenchman does go at this point, with regards summer planning and transfer activity.

It is understood Wenger told American owner Stan Kroenke of his wish to stay before the meeting.

Arsenal great Tony Adams has questioned whether Arsene Wenger can "let go" of his job and urged the French manager not to spoil his reign by staying on.

However, with the season ending on a high with the FA Cup victory over Chelsea on Sunday morning (AEST), it appears the club is now ready to announce Wenger's new deal. "I've never seen him so animated".

Following that victory at Wembley, Wenger was asked if he would be preparing a presentation ahead of the meeting and the Frenchman said: "The best presentation is to watch the game". I've played until the end of my contract, which is today basically. I think I have shown you that I have exactly the same commitment.

Back in October, a number of key stars would have left the club if Wenger didn't sign an extension and remain at the club, according to Goal.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Wenger said: "I said last week this team will win the championship [Premier League] with one or two good buys".

Another factor in Arsenal's final decision may have been down to first team players.

But Wenger, and his Arsenal players, redeemed their campaign to secure a record 13th FA Cup success for the club.

"Otherwise, it is total incompetence to get to this stage".
