Amazon is bringing voice calls to the Echo

Essentially, people can use the screen on the Echo show as a digital photo frame by pulling pictures stored on Prime Photos, and when it's playing songs from Amazon Music, it'll put the lyrics up on-screen. Much like the iPod device in the film Her, Echo Show can now "show you things", hands free with the 7-inch touchscreen with an undefined resolution. The Show's screen will give users more information about their Alexa queries (displaying a full weather report or the steps in each recipe, for example), and can be used to play videos. When you want to use Echo Show, just say the wake word "Alexa" and Echo Show responds instantly. This functionality actually allows you to connect with other Echo Show users even when the person on the other side may not even accept the call. It can double as an Alarm clock by your bed, or be an extra helper in the kitchen for checking news or watching YouTube videos.

This new device by Amazon is the company's fourth major Echo-branded model.

Unlike other devices in the Echo range, which focus on streaming music and making phone calls through voice commands, the Echo Show features a built-in 7ins touchscreen to stream videos and view photographs. The speaker comes with a price tag of $229.99 (around Rs 15,000).

Echo Show also features dual 2-inch Dolby-powered stereo speakers and a front-facing 5MP camera. In April this year, Amazon had unveiled the Echo Look.

Echo Show is shipping on June 28. No UK pricing or release date has yet been announced.

Since the launch of the original Echo, Amazon has aggressively expanded its Alexa partnerships to end up with thousands of so-called "skills".
