That report will focus on 16 countries with which the United States had a significant trade deficit in goods previous year - China, Japan, Germany, Mexico, Ireland, Vietnam, Italy, South Korea, Malaysia, India, Thailand, France, Switzerland, Taiwan, Indonesia and Canada - according to the newspaper.

Trump said the two executive orders would set the stage for a revival of American manufacturing.

Washington says the trade deficit with China was $347 billion last year, with both imports and exports down a bit from prior years.

"Sino-US trade is highly complementary and has mutual benefits", the statement said.

Trump hosted Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe at the estate in February in a meeting billed as an opportunity to bond over rounds of golf in an environment conducive to building the kind of personal relationships the USA president is said to view as important.

But foreign trade has also helped reduce prices for clothing, cars and furniture, among other items.
