Although Costa has managed a reasonable return of 17 goals from 30 Premier League games this season, only three of those strikes have come in 2017 and his poor form in front of goal has been partially responsible for Chelsea's recent wobble.

Before Christmas, the Chelsea striker had scored 13 times and looked well on course to be among the top scorers at the end of the season.

This is a second such offer from the Chinese Super League after Tianjin Quanjian tried signing him in January. The mid-season transfer window is open from June 19 to July 14. The report by the Daily Mirror claims that Costa is set to be offered a bumper deal from China, with Chelsea fearing that that has turned his head.

The Spain worldwide is now in his worst run before goal since moving to Stamford Bridge having not found the rear of the net in some of his last five league matches.

However, Tianjin have not lost their interest, and billionaire owner Shu Yuhui insists a deal is still in the pipeline to bring the Spanish worldwide to the club.

"I can only say that we are still working on the deal [to sign Costa]. And we have already made contacts with several players", Yuhui told Sina Sports.

However, this has not stopped players from being linked with mega-money moves to the CSL, with Arsenal's Mesut Ozil and Bayern Munich's Douglas Costa among those rumoured to be attracting interest. "It's safe to say that we have the same transfer targets as those illustrious clubs".

"We may have to pay bigger price because our club are now competing with Real Madrid and Bayern Munich".
