Record-breaking grand-slam tennis champion and former world number one Serena Williams is expecting her first child.

Serena Williams intends to return to tennis in 2018 after her pregnancy was confirmed late on Wednesday night. "I'm happy to confirm Serena is expecting a baby this fall", Williams' spokesperson told CNN in a statement. She pulled out of Indian Wells, Miami, and Madrid, citing knee trouble, and in early March, I speculated whether the lack of tournament play would hurt her chances in the French Open.

It's not just that Williams won in the unforgiving heat of an Australian summer, she also didn't drop a set during the whole tournament, had to play her sister, Venus, in the final and managed to break Steffi Graf's previous record for the most grand slams won in the Open era.

Belarusian former world No. 1 Victoria Azarenka, a two-time Grand Slam victor, is also set for a return to the Tour later this year after giving birth to her son Leo in December.

"Kim Clijsters came back and won a grand slam after giving birth".

It's official, Tennis queen Serena Williams is pregnant and fans are going insane about it! If Williams is 20 weeks pregnant and gives birth after a full term, she would have her child in early September, during the fourth Grand Slam, the US Open in NY.

That seventh Australian title came in her 20th year on the professional tour and more than 18 years after her first Major, which she won as a teenager at the US Open in 1999. Quickly, the global news agencies analyzed that she'd have been 8 weeks into pregnancy while winning her 23rd grand slam in January this year - and that's the thing and passion about sport. "A pregnant woman dominated them".

The United States Lawn tennis star is engaged to Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian and made the announcement of her pregnancy yesterday on Snapchat.

She had alerted the world of her impending nuptials on Reddit, with tech entrepreneur Ohanian posting on his Facebook page, linking to her Reddit post and adding: "She said yes".

If Williams does return though, there's a blueprint for her post-baby comeback.

Johanna Konta has pledged to try to take advantage of Serena Williams' absence from the tour by competing for grand slam titles. "I look forward to being back as soon as I can".
