Red Sox rally with 4 in 8th inning, beat Tigers 7-5

He allowed three runs in five innings in a 3-2 loss to Boston at home on August 20 and is 0-2 with an 8.31 ERA in three career encounters - two starts - versus the Red Sox. Sale tossed 7 ⅔ innings allowing two runs on four hits and no walks while striking out 10.

Barnes (1-0) got the win by allowing one hit in two innings. The first baseman went 3-for-4 with two doubles, and he scored the Red Sox's first run and only of the game.

Nicholas Castellanos chased Sale with a two-out, go-ahead single in the eighth inning and Ian Kinsler homered in the sixth, lifting Detroit over Boston 2-1 on Monday. Eduardo Rodriguez took the loss for the Sox on the mound, victim to a three-run fifth inning that ending his outing prematurely.

Bogaerts (personal) was unable to join the Red Sox in Detroit and won't be available for the team's series finale with the Tigers on Monday, Peter Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.

The Red Sox are also 1-7 in their last eight road games and 0-6 in their last seven against the AL Central. "I think that's why they want the doctors to see it to kind of determine how much leeway they're going to let me have".

The Red Sox tied it again in the seventh on an RBI single by Andrew Benintendi.

Red Sox: Before the game, Farrell said Bradley was dealing with some soreness and swelling in his knee.

"I'm not thinking too much about what happened a year ago", said Porcello, who needs two strikeouts to reach 1,000 for his career.

Porcello, who pitched for the Tigers from 2009-14, is coming off a career year in which he posted a 22-4 record and 3.15 ERA.
