Pearl Jam's induction was the last one of the night, pleasing what was decidedly a Eddie-Vedder-fan-heavy crowd in Brooklyn. Like so many of today's entertainers, they were ironic at times, socially aware at others, but always very, very human, unafraid to show their flaws because the big hearts underneath made up for it, and resonated with so many of us. "I know that's hard to see or even hard to say, but I really always felt that I was the outside guy", Perry said during the VH1 special. "That's the kind of music activism that gives us all hope". And were confused as well: why wouldn't he want to perform those songs, one more time. It's been whispered about ever since the announcement of Journey's induction was made past year.

At the ceremony on Friday night, held at Brooklyn's Barclays Center, Letterman paid tribute to Pearl Jam in a heartfelt and amusing speech, which honored the band and poked fun at Ticketmaster. "Pearl Jam, you're my brothers", guitarist Mike McCready told his longtime bandmates and went on to recount advice Guns N' Roses bassist Duff McKagan once gave him: "You're only as good as the people you're around".

Mike McCready isn't just the lead guitarist of almost inducted Rock and Roll Hall of Famers Pearl Jam-he's also quite the photographer. Despite earlier reports, Steve Perry did not perform with the current Journey members. She also said earning the Rock Hall honor would help young people learn who she is, and what she's accomplished. "My granddaughter had no clue who I was until I took her backstage at a Taylor Swift concert".

Following a tribute video including statements about Berry's influence from Keith Richards, Bruce Springsteen, and Paul McCartney, new inductees ELO played their version of "Roll Over Beethoven" to honor Berry.

EW has reached out to Rock Hall organizers for comment.

"Now in the new political cultural reality in which we find ourselves, there is much work to be done, where empathy is failing and sharing has been usurped by greed and lust for power", she said. "Welcome to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame".

The ceremony will air in edited form on HBO on April 29th.
