Day 2 of the 2017 NFL Draft

Wisconsin's Ryan Ramczyk arrives for the first round of the 2017 NFL football draft, Thursday, April 27, 2017, in Philadelphia. That couldn't have been more wrong.

ESPN analysts Mel Kiper Jr. and Todd McShay have Barnett as their No. 13 overall player in their final top 300 rankings and NFL Network Mike Mayock has him rated at No. 17 in his top 100. Pace decided he couldn't pass up the chance. The Bears sent their third, 67 and 111 overall picks this year and a 2018 third-rounder to the 49ers in exchange for the second pick. The San Francisco 49ers selected Stanford defensive end Solomon Thomas third. Signed to a three-year, $45 million deal, the Bears can rid themselves of Glennon with just $3 million in dead money after this season.

Mitchell Trubisky didn't see it coming either. They will be joined by a bunch of their fellow student-athletes on Friday, and the draft will wrap up with Rounds 4-7 action taking place on Saturday.

The saying goes that defenses win championships, but I guess we can't assume these sayings are as common as we believe. "I didn't want to sit on our hands and risk not getting that player".

The 6-foot-2, 222-pound Trubisky said had little contact with the Bears leading up to the draft. "But his tape is too good and I think the city of Philadelphia is going to love him". In 2016, he competed 304 of 446 throws for 3,478 yards, 30 touchdowns and six interceptions. "Also, I can help the run there".

Even so, it was a surprising - and bold - move for the Bears.

The Vikings could grab a running back in the second round, or they may look to take one later since the draft is so deep at the position. It's the cost of doing business these days in the National Football League that you must pay the piper to get your quarterback. "It does not address the Eagles' biggest need, which is at cornerback, and it also ignores a couple players who slipped down the board".

No mention of head coach John Fox. Years of shoddy drafting combined with a long list of injuries exposed a glaring lack of depth.

The Bears dumped Cutler after eight seasons and signed Glennon, giving them some leeway to wait on a QB.

What they started a year ago was to build around a quarterback.

"No timelines on that", Pace said.

"For us, some of things that factor into the equation, certainly we talk about character, medical. those are some of the things that come into the equation as we go along through it". Push the guy in front of me. "I'm looking forward to doing so".

But maybe Pace's decision signals to some bigger problems in the Bears organization. "For example, you could have made a lot of money past year if you had gone to Vegas and put a prop bet down that everyone in the draft is going to have to use the words, 'gas mask bong, ' when talking about a first round pick".

"I have been dreaming of this for a long time", Adams said. "But I think football-wise my tape speaks a lot". When the Barnett pick was announced, they erupted in cheers.
