It looks like Beauty And The Beast will have a happy ending in Malaysia after all.

The fervor leading up to the Beauty and the Beast March 17th theatrical release seemed to indicate a good opening weekend for Disney's live-action remake starring Emma Watson. The popular Disney movie was recently remade with United Kingdom actress Emma Watson as lead character, Belle.

The film's characters include manservant LeFou, who plays the sidekick to villain Gaston, and, according to director Bill Condon, "is confused about his sexuality". The movie is now the "top domestic opening of all time for a film rated PG", beating out Finding Dory, which previously held the record in North America after grossing $135 million during its opening weekend.

A board member of the predominantly Muslim country's National Cinema Company - which runs almost all of Kuwait's cinemas - told the Associated Press that an edited version of Beauty and the Beast may be back on screens later this week.

Both National Cinema Company and Grand Cinemas halted the sale of tickets with the former offering refunds, according to the publication. Disney responded to the editing request by announcing that "the film has not been and will not be cut for Malaysia". Ironically, Beauty's performance this weekend just barely topped Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. We have our responsibilities to the country, the people and our constitution. He said the film was given a PG13 rating, which requires parental guidance for children under age 13. It is not clear when or if the second censored version of the film will be approved for release in Kuwait. An Alabama drive-in theater canceled showings before owners screened the film.

But Disney stood its ground, and shelved the movie's Malaysian release when the country threatened to screen the movie without Le Fou's scene.
