No More Wheelbarrow Or Shoe For Monopoly Players

The winning tokens, celebrating World Monopoly Day tomorrow, are a tyrannosaurus rex, rubber ducky and penguin - a selection just as seemingly random as the original pieces - which will join the iconic Monopoly race auto, top hat, Scottie dog, cat and battleship.

The new standard tokens are: the Scottish terrier, T. rex, cat, race vehicle, rubber ducky, top hat, battle ship, and penguin. If you're a big fan of penguins, rubber duckies and T-rexes, you're in luck: those are the three new pieces.

Anyway, the new version of the board game - complete with T-rex, rubber duck and penguin - will be available from the autumn.

Monopoly is one of the world's favorite family game brand.

But we'll allow you a moment to grieve as these tokens were part of the traditional boards around the world and have been since the game launched in 1935.

The classic board game Monopoly is getting a 21st century update.

Over four million votes were cast over 100 countries.

As you can see in the image above, the T-Rex, rubber ducky, and penguin will all make their way to the money trading game. The Scottie dog received the most votes overall. After the result of a vote earlier this year, three of the classic, apparently not-so-beloved tokens are being replaced with new, hipper alternatives. In 2013, players voted to replace the iron with a cat, which remains in today's stable of tokens.

The game-piece switcheroo drew reactions on Twitter ranging from sadness to wisecracks. Say goodbye to the boot, wheelbarrow and thimble tokens. The New England Aquarium rallied fans of their adorable Penguin population to #VotePenguin, and hosted MR. MONOPOLY to meet the penguins on the day the vote kicked off, which was broadcasted via Facebook live to the MONOPOLY brand's almost 11 million Facebook fans.
