The ministry says two suicide bombers walked into the wedding party in al-Hajaj village, near the city of Tikrit, on Wednesday evening.

"The museum is completely empty of all artifacts. Those who do not have a family should stay and fight, whether foreign or local", he said.

On Tuesday elite military troops recaptured the city's provincial government headquarters, while on Wednesday the Iraqi army claimed a key road leading west of Mosul towards Tal Afar, another IS stronghold, and on toward the Syrian border.

A 100,000-strong force of Iraqi military units, Shi'ite forces and Kurdish fighters, backed by a US-led coalition, has fought since October in the Mosul campaign.

Mosul also fell to ISIS in the summer of 2014, along with Tikrit and large swaths of northern and western Iraq, but now remains the militant group's last significant urban area in the country. In Syria, it still holds Raqqa city as its stronghold, as well as most of Deir al-Zor province. Tikrit, which is located northwest of Baghdad, was freed in April 2015.

Immediate speculation was that ISIS was behind that attack, though ISIS is usually pretty quick to claim credit for such incidents, and the conspicuous lack of any claims has everyone uncertain exactly what is going on.
