In Varanasi, the Union Minister told reporters that the BJP has achieved majority after phase 5 of the state assembly elections in an "unprecedented wave" in favour of the party and went on to claim that the wave had now turned into a "Tsunami". "In order to improve the condition of the state and its welfare, the people have yet again made a decision to vote for me in this election", Mayawati said.

"Mayawati can anytime align with the BJP, she cannot be trusted".

Taking a potshot at arch rival Bahujan Samaj Party, Yadav said "My "bua" (Mayawati) is perhaps the only leader on the earth who installed her own statue during her lifetime". Why are they not helping farmers in distress? "I want to ask when will that AIIMS be ready", Akhilesh said. Continuing her tirade against the BJP, she said that demonetisation has hurt the nation, adding the people are still suffering because of this move as several continue to remain unemployed.

Responding to PM Modi's promise to waive off farmers' loans, Akhilesh said, "The farmers of the country are expecting that in the garb of UP, their loans will be waived off. This proves that this move was introduced to divert the focus from their bad administration and ulterior motives", Mayawati said. A large chunk of people from Uttar Pradesh live in the megacity to earn livelihood and according to political observers, a lot of them voted in the BMC polls.

Akhilesh's comments came even after as the voting for the fifth-phase of assembly elections continues in Uttar Pradesh.

Amethi, Sultanpur, Faizabad, Barabanki, Ambedkarnagar, Bahraich, Shravasti, Balrampur, Gonda, Basti, Siddharthnagar and some of Sant Kabir Nagar are districts where the polling is on.
