Gomi said he met Kim Jong Nam by chance at Beijing's worldwide airport in 2004, leading to exchanges of 150 emails and two interviews in 2011 - one in Beijing and another in Macau - totaling seven hours.

"Right after the information related to the arrest of a suspect who carries a Vietnamese passport named Doan Thi Huong surfaced", the Vietnamese foreign ministry said in a statement issued Monday, "the [ministry] has instructed the Vietnam Embassy in Malaysia to urgently work with local organs to verify the information", it said.

According to CBS News' Adriana Diaz, police would not say what country or countries the suspects fled to, but said Malaysia is working with Interpol and other relevant agencies.

Police say that Kim was killed by two women who used a needle and a cloth to poison him at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport, according to the New York Times. The video also shows another woman at the crime scene, who swiftly walks away in another direction, though it remains unclear whether the second woman was an accomplice in the attack or not.

Many global observers believe that Kim Jong Nam was under the protection of China as potential leverage against the rogue state's dictator.

The staff then lead him to the airport clinic.

Malaysia's deputy national police chief, Noor Rashid, said Mr Kim asked for help at a customer service desk and said "two unidentified women had swabbed or had wiped his face with a liquid and that he felt dizzy".

The assassination has sparked a diplomatic row between Malaysia and North Korea.

But with tensions continuing to escalate between the two countries as the investigation continues, Malaysia has made a decision to recall its ambassador from North Korea's capital, Pyongyang.

Police had "pinned the suspicion on us", Mr Kang said, calling on Malaysia and the global community to work with North Korea on a joint investigation.

Malaysia's Prime Minister Najib Razak has promised that his government's investigation into the assassination will be "objective".

"We have no reason why we want to do something to paint North Korea in a bad light", he said. Kim Jong Nam has a close relationship with China and has been living in Macao.

"It starkly demonstrated the North Korean regime's recklessness and cruelty as well as the fact that it will do anything, everything in order to maintain its power", Hwang said during a security conference.

The detained man, identified as Ri Jong Chol, 46, is the fourth person to be picked up by investigators and the only suspect from North Korea. Malaysia's Star newspaper reported the four had returned to Pyongyang, via Jakarta and Dubai.
