Peyton Manning's replacement? Former NU QB Siemian named Broncos opening night starter

Now he's tasked with leading the defending Super Bowl champions in the post-Peyton Manning era. Some may be surprised by that, but let it be known Chris Harris Jr. tried to warn you.

"I feel like it's the right decision", said Kubiak, whose team opens against Carolina on September 8 in a title game rematch. He's very comfortable and can throw the ball, too. But he appeared to win the job cleanly, and if Kubiak formally agrees, Siemian will be asked to grow up quickly.

No more constant questions to Gary Kubiak over who the Denver Broncos starting quarterback will be come the September 8 season opener against the Carolina Panthers. Siemian was a seventh-round draft pick from Northwestern in 2015.

Rams: While most of L.A.'s starters played through the first half, RB Todd Gurley sat this one out. Bottom line: I've got a lot to go on on Mark.

It's not surprising Lynch isn't yet ready and Siemian is way ahead of him.

On Saturday, Siemian, the player least expected take the reins just six months ago, capitalized and might have made the unthinkable a reality. It would be all of it.

If the Broncos can't find a willing partner, Sanchez may just become another camp casualty. Siemian checked the boxes. "I don't think I want to change who I am or who I am in the locker room".

It was Sanchez's job to lose when training camp began and he's apparently done just that with a slew of turnovers in the preseason, although coach Gary Kubiak had steadfastly declined to name a starter up to this point. They know who their quarterback of the near future will be.

Siemian has already proved he better fits that mold.

It remains to be seen how long Siemian's leash will be.

Siemian crossed that bridge, too, in recent weeks.

Kubiak hinted which way he was leaning in his evaluation of Siemian after Saturday's game. "He's played a lot of football", Kubiak said.

After Saturday's game he let a little of that show. Kubiak praises his calmness and says he was impressed by Siemian's play.

"I feel confident. Ultimately it's up to [Kubiak]; it's a better question for him.", said Siemian. Lynch looks like he might not be quite as much of a project as some initially believed (and I personally think he will be starting before the 2016 season is over). "I was trying to (keep it) inside the building so to speak and take it one day at a time and improve and take good coaching and be a good teammate".

Turns out the kid was right.
