The season will star Jeffrey Tambor, Amy Landecker, and Gaby Hoffmann among other returning cast members playing Pfefferman family members.

In another jarring segment, Maura is seen sitting down with a doctor to analyze various plastic surgeries she's thinking about undergoing on her jawline and neck.

Amazon Prime has released the trailer for the upcoming season of Transparent. It teases more changes coming to Maura (Jeffrey Tambor) and her family's lives as she continues her transition, both physically and psychologically, AceShowbiz reports. In another, she consults a surgeon about liposuction on her face, saying she'd like to donate her excess skin to science.

The season is also set to feature a flashback episode, not shown in this trailer, set in 1958 and exploring Maura as she questions her gender identity aged 12.

The season three trailer, which debuted at The Critics Association (TCA) press tour, promises even more soul-searching. "You think of going male to female, rather than a trans person being assigned the wrong gender at birth, so we really wanted to tell that story and bring that into the public consciousness".

Alexandra Billings, who plays Davina on the show, broke in and said she wanted to note something Tambor himself would never say out loud. "I trust Jill within an inch of my life".

The show has become a cult hit and one of Amazon's biggest shows, with Tambor winning Best Actor at the Screen Actors Guild awards earlier this year.

The hit United States show returns September 23 - and it seems the Pfeffermans are as gloriously dysfunctional as ever.
