Driver Arrested After Deadly Hit-And-Run on Capital Beltway

Virginia State Police captured the driver they say ran away from the scene after a fatal crash on the Capital Beltway in Fairfax County.

Police were called to the scene of the crash involving a pedestrian at the intersection of North Shore Drive and Village Road about 5:15 p.m. Sunday, Fairfax County police said in a news release. There were five people in the auto that was hit, and a female passenger died. Seo was not in a crosswalk, police said.

Someone behind the wheel of a vehicle hit and killed 76-year-old Hung Soon Seo at the intersection of North Shore Drive and Village Road some time before 5:15 p.m. yesterday, police said. They found 23-year-old Nicholas V. Hammond of Fairfax walking along an Annandale street about 4 a.m., police said. Hammond was taken into custody without further incident, police said.

The woman passenger in the Nissan was transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital for treatment of serious but non-life threatening injuries, according to police. Charges are pending at this time.
