Donald Trump heads to Mexico

She said, "I think you'll see a very presidential Donald Trump".

Trump is set to give his speech in Phoenix at 6 p.m. local time.

In recent weeks he has expressed willingness to soften his hardline stance to a "fair and humane" policy ahead of November's election.

"There certainly can be a softening because we're not looking to hurt people", Trump said in his response.

Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto also confirmed in a tweet Trump would be traveling to Mexico.

True to Trump's flair for the dramatic, the visit will guarantee widespread news coverage for the former reality TV star. Polls show him trailing Democrat Hillary Clinton in most of the key states that will determine the USA election. Trump's surprise visit was coming hours before a major address on immigration in Arizona. "He didn't change his stance on anything", Donald Trump Jr. said Tuesday on CNN.

Clinton is speaking to the American Legion's annual convention in Cincinnati. "I wish we were as welcome as they (U.S. citizens) are in Mexico, that we were treated like we treat them".

Referencing Trump's threats to "walk away from our alliances", she notes that when America fails to lead, the country leaves a vacuum for the rest of the world to fill.

"We are also going to secure our border and stop the drugs from pouring in", Trump told the crowd gathered Tuesday evening. The 80-year-old McCain defeated former state Sen.

MacDonald's tweet had to do with Clinton's State Department and perceived favoritism for UBS, a global financial services company that donated to the Clinton Foundation.

Mike Pence says that Donald Trump's trip to Mexico demonstrates what a "decisive leader" he would be if elected president.

Mexico's presidential office confirmed the visit, posting its own tweet in Spanish to say the billionaire NY real estate tycoon "has accepted the invitation and will meet tomorrow privately with the President @EPN". He noted that Hillary Clinton received the same invitation but hasn't responded yet.

Pena Nieto's office said in a statement that he had sent invitations to Trump as well as his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton. By 130 million people, we don't like him. Added former first lady Margarita Zavala on Twitter: "We Mexicans have dignity, and we reject your hate speech".

A sudden global trip by a U.S. presidential candidate would be a logistical and security nightmare at such short notice. "He fooled him (Pena Nieto). he's using him to try to recover lost votes".

Pena Nieto for his part has likened Trump to "Hitler and Mussolini" and slammed the Republican nominee for his isolationist positions. "Tyrants are to be confronted, not pacified", Krauze told the Televisa TV network.

The meeting between Trump and Enrique Pena Nieto will take place in Mexico City on Wednesday, just hours before Trump delivers a speech on his immigration policy in Arizona. But he cast a different tone late Tuesday, writing on Twitter of the visit, "I believe in dialogue to promote Mexico's interests in the world and, principally, to protect Mexicans wherever they are".

Pena Nieto has been sharply critical of Trump's immigration policies, particularly the Republican's plans to build a wall and have Mexico pay for it.

He added: "What's in it for Mexico?" The newspaper El Universal wrote in an editorial that Trump "caught Mexican diplomats off guard".

For more than a year, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has derided Mexico as an exporter of rapists and criminals and a country that is stealing jobs and money away from the United States.

Even before the Mexican trip was announced, former adviser Barry Bennett said Trump faced political risk should he appear to be reversing himself on an issue as sensitive as immigration.
