The vigil for Nykea Aldridge, a cousin of National Basketball Association star Dwyane Wade, began shortly after police announced brothers Darwin Sorrells Jr. and Derren Sorrells were charged Sunday with first-degree murder in her death. The suspects are two brothers - Darwin Sorrells Jr., 26, and Derren Sorrells, 22 - both convicted felons and "documented gang members" who were out on parole when the shooting took place.

Nykea Aldridge, 32, was pushing a baby stroller on Friday when she was shot. Chicago police said she was killed Friday when two males walked up and fired shots at a third man but hit Aldridge in the head and arm.

Derren Sorrells lives in the 6000 block of South Indiana, and Darwin Sorrells Jr., who was also charged with one misdemeanor count of criminal trespass, lives in the 7500 block of South Wentworth, police said.

"The city of Chicago is hurting", Wade tweeted to his six million Twitter followers. "I can't bring her back but I forgive them, and I just pray to God that they pray to God to ask forgiveness for what they've done".

Much of the increase in Chicago homicides is related to more shootings, which have been climbing since 2013 but have spiked this year to 2,312 as of early Monday.

Aldridge was the daughter of Wade's mother's sister, according to the Tribune.

"I think you have to look at both tweets where he expresses his condolences", Conway said. We need more help& more hands on deck.

Frustrated by the continued violence, Chicago police superintendent Eddie Johnson said it's time to get serious about sentencing repeat offenders. Both brothers are reportedly gang members, who were on parole for gun convictions. Authorities have said it's possible the bullet that killed her was sacked during a robbery attempt involving a driver for Uber.

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump used the devastating news to try and boost his viewing in the African-American community with a series of tweets.

Wade, who grew up in the area, signed with the Chicago Bulls during this summer's free agency period.

Dwyane Wade's mother, Jolinda Wade, a senior pastor of New Creation Binding and Loosing Ministry in Chicago, spoke on the importance of helping young men, such as the offenders, to transform their minds and find a better direction with their lives. His nephew, Darin Johnson, was shot twice in the leg in 2012 but recovered, according to The Associated Press.

"This is something that didn't start today; this is something that isn't going to end tomorrow", he said. A family spokesman says a cousin Wade was fatally shot Friday, Aug. 25.
