Drake and Rihanna leave a Video Music Awards after party at Up & Down.

The R&B superstar was chosen as the recipient of this year's (16) Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, and her frequent collaborator and rumoured beau Drake was on hand to present her with the prestigious golden Moonman trophy at Sunday's (28Aug16) ceremony.

The Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award which honoured Rihanna's decade-long impact on music, pop culture, fashion, film and philanthropy. And nearly as soon as she got it, she showed she was proud of her Barbadian heritage. When I think about receiving this tonight, all I could think of was my country.

And then, well, you know what they did. But now my success is not my own. "It's my family's, it's my fans', it's my country's, it's women, it's black women".

Drake nearly fell flat on his face in front of Rihanna as he escorted the singer backstage at Madison Square Garden after getting caught up in the hem of her champagne-coloured dress. The singer will be performing at this year's VMAs, a source tells Billboard.

"This is a night for us all to be thankful for what you have done for us!" reads the caption.

Her final performance was an intimate performance of her hits "Stay", "Diamonds" and her newest single "Love On The Brain" featuring a white backdrop and a stunning sounding orchestra which complimented her emotional and raw singing chops.
