Ben Rothwell is out of his pivotal UFC 203 matchup against former heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum due to an injury, MMAjunkie.com reported Thursday. The report does indicate that the UFC is seeking a replacement that will allow Werdum, a former champion who lost to Miocic earlier this year, to remain on the docket. A member of his team stated that Rothwell suffered a torn meniscus and possible ACL injury. That's bad news for "Big", who looked to slingshot back into the title chase sooner than later after "Cigano" snapped his four-fight win streak and crushed his immediate aspirations to compete for a championship. He won each of these fights by submission or TKO. The loss snapped an impressive four-fight winning streak, which included a pair of submission victories over Josh Barnett and Matt Mitrione, and an upset knockout over future title challenger Alistair Overeem.

Rothwell was on the cusp of receiving a title shot before his loss to Dos Santos.

There are not many options to who can replace Rothwell in the co-main event spot at UFC 202.

"'Vai Cavalo" previoulsy earned his undisputed title after submitting then champion Cain Velasquez in their title unification bout at UFC 188 in Mexico City.

UFC 203 takes place live from Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland on September 10.

UFC 203 also features the MMA debut of former WWE superstar CM Punk against Mickey Gall.
