Famed pro wrestler "Soul Man" Rocky Johnson has died at the age of 75. A cause of his death has not been announced.

The WWE Hall of Famer began his wrestling career in the 1960's and was a huge superstar in the World Wide Wrestling Federation (WWWF) and National Wrestling Alliance (NWA). On November 15, 1983, Johnson teamed with Soul Patrol partner Tony Atlas to defeat The Wild Samoans for the WWE World Tag Team belts in Allentown, PA.

"In 2008, Johnson achieved the highest honor in sports-entertainment when he was inducted by The Rock into the WWE Hall of Fame where he will be forever enshrined as one of sports-entertainment's most influential performers".

Rocky Johnson appears on Big Time Wrestling at the KTXL studio in Sacramento.

Born Wade Douglas Bowles, Johnson was originally from Amherst.

The Rock initially debuted in the WWF as Rocky Maivia in 1996, taking the ring names of his father and grandfather.

'My condolences & thoughts go out to his family'. Johnson teamed with Tony Atlas as The Soul Patrol, and the duo defeated The Wild Samoans in a no disqualification match on November 15, 1983 to win the WWF tag team championship. "Amusing thing is the day I stopped looking for that approval was the day I understood what it meant to be man and more importantly, a father", Dwayne wrote. I always had a place to go when I was working. I'll take it. It's made me who I am today. Rocky was always extremely friendly and kind to me every time I interacted with him over the years. The two welcomed their son, Dwayne, in 1972, and later divorced in 2003.
