Gardaí are investigating after the discovery of human body parts in a bag in north Dublin.

"But sadly, people are not surprised by it - even though it is pretty grim and grotesque to discover that somebody's remains were found in a plastic bag all dismembered".

An alarm was raised just after 10 p.m. local time on Monday when what appeared to be a bag of severed limbs were found outside a houses at the junction of Moatview Gardens and Drive, a quiet suburban housing project just outside of Dublin.

The bag reportedly contains arms and legs.

#Breaking Photo shows the scene where a dismembered body was found in Coolock tonight after it was thrown from a auto on Moatview Park. The persons responsible rammed a #Garda vehicle as they left the area and absconded.

Investigations are also underway to establish how the dismembered body parts came to be in the estate, with Gardaí said to be verifying reports that they had been dumped by a passing vehicle which fled the scene.

Crime scene officers are examining the scene which has been sealed off.

However it quickly became apparent that the situation was serious, and the road was cordoned off to await the arrival of forensic experts and the state pathologist, with investigators due to carry out tests on the remains this morning, 14 January.

A co-ordination conference has been held at Coolock Garda Station and an investigation team appointed, with the resources required for a murder inquiry.
