Looking at Manchester City, the Sky Blues have had a poor few games and that has resulted in the team falling significantly behind Liverpool in the race for the Premier League title.

"That is not good enough", he said. They shot twice and scored.

But Guardiola said he would continue playing Fernandinho at the heart of his backline rather than restoring him to midfield, even though Ilkay Gundogan is suspended for the tough test at Turf Moor.

Winger Leroy Sane and centre-back Aymeric Laporte are both long-term absentees with knee injuries. "Always we try to prepare to create more and concede less".

"He is not ready for the derby but after the derby we will see", Guardiola said.

Summer signing Rodri and Ilkay Gundogan have been chosen over three-time Premier League victor Fernandinho in midfield by the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss.

"I prefer Gundogan and Rodri in [the defensive midfield] position".

Former France Under-21 worldwide Laporte has been a massive miss for City this season after being taken off on a stretcher during the 4-0 Premier League win over Brighton at the Etihad Stadium on August 31.

City boss Guardiola concedes pairing Stones with Nicolas Otamendi is not a combination he likes.

The Argentine striker will miss Tuesday's clash and also Saturday's visit of neighbours Manchester United, Guardiola confirmed at his pre-match press conference on Monday.

MANCHESTER, Dec 2 ― Despite a run of just one win in five games Manchester City are not low on confidence and it is important to analyse performances not just results, says manager Pep Guardiola.

He said: "They have to believe we will win tomorrow". "That is the fact".

"So I think we have to think about what we have to do to win the games and play quite similar to how we played in our [previous] games, especially the last one against Newcastle or the last 20, 25 minutes against Chelsea".

Guardiola is expecting a tough night at Burnley.

City had 10 points drifting from Liverpool last season before they successfully chased them to win their third consecutive title and Laporte remains convinced that they can do this again, something that Guardiola agrees with.
