Panthers Fire Coach Rivera

He was also asked about favoring a coach with an offensive background to one from the defensive side of the ball.

After meeting with his players a final time, Rivera came into the media room at Bank of America Stadium and began with a prepared statement that ran almost five minutes.

Even recent comments over the last week or so by Jerry Jones makes it seem like anything short of winning the Super Bowl will result in Garrett being out of a job in the offseason. "Why specifically now is I was informed of other teams doing different types of searches out there, and I'm not going to start a search and not tell Ron Rivera I'm starting a search".

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones made headlines Tuesday by declaring: "Jason Garrett will be coaching in the National Football League next year".

Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton did not appear to be pleased with the team's decision to fire head coach Ron Rivera in the middle of the season Tuesday.

"I do believe I will get another opportunity, and I will coach again", he said, laughing that he's taking the next four weeks off before getting back to work.

Former world No. 1 Tiger Woods on Tuesday said that he had turned down offers to play in the Saudi International tournament, but defended the right of players to participate in the event. Rivera, who was appointed in 2011, led the Panthers to a National Football Conference Championship and three NFC South titles during his tenure and was named NFL Coach of the Year in the 2015 season.

At his next stop, he wants the same thing he had when he first came to Carolina. "I just think back to how much fun we had and how great it really was". It may be that Rivera is overqualified to coach a team like the Redskins, but they'd better at least try to get him to fill that position. "I can go on and on but most importantly; thank you for allowing me to be me!" His favorite Panther of all time is Chad Cota and he once AIM chatted with Kevin Greene.
