First Lady Melania Trump unveiled this year's White House Christmas decor, announcing the theme "The Spirit of America", which is a tribute to USA traditions, customs and history.

On Sunday, First Lady Melania Trump unveiled this year's holiday décor via Twitter with a festive compilation video.

Trump did not show up for photo ops, as she did in 2017, when the lavish presentation also included ballet dancers twirling to The Nutcracker Suite played by the Marine Band.

The East Colonnade of the White House is lined with double rows of see-through panels etched with more than 60 examples of American design, innovation and architecture, ranging from the Woolworth Building in New York City to the Space Needle in Seattle. It wouldn't be a Trump Christmas without the vibe that Secret Service members might materialize out of the ether and break the fingers of anyone who so much as thinks about touching a tree ornament.

Additionally, Mrs Trump kept the tradition of a giant White House replica - made from 90 kilograms of gingerbread, with layers and layers of white icing and banisters of the South Portico and Truman Balcony made from raw spaghetti coated black with icing.

The popular display also features models of some of the nation's most famous landmarks, including Mount Rushmore, St. Louis' Gateway Arch, the Alamo, the Liberty Bell and the Statue of Liberty, along with the Golden Gate Bridge and the Space Needle.

The winning Douglas Fir from Larry Snyder of Mahantongo Valley Farms towering over 16.5 feet was adorned with handmade paper flowers that represent the floral emblems of every US state and territory. The Red Room is decorated with games, including trees made of White House playing cards bearing the president and first lady's signatures. It's meant to highlight her "Be Best" youth initiative and serve as a reminder of the kindness, respect and teamwork needed to play together.

Mrs. Trump continued her tradition of hanging wreaths on the mansion's exterior windows, 106 in all.

"This Christmas season I want to honor those who have shaped our country and made it the place we are proud to call home, and I am excited to announce our White House holiday theme, "The Spirit of America", said the first lady in a statement.

"The Christmas Tree serves as the centerpiece of each year's unique Christmas theme!" tweeted The White House.

This weekend the first lady took to her Instagram page to share a sneak peek of this year's White House Christmas decorations.

A fireplace mantle is decorated in the Green Room, which features beloved and classic Christmas tales. According to Newsweek, the official switching on of the Christmas tree lights is set to take place on December 5, though the public have yet to see this year's full array of decorations.
