Last week, the CDC stated it had discovered proof of an artificial type of vitamin E oil in lung fluid samples from sufferers.

The age vary of sufferers is from 13 to people of their 70s - however, most are men of their 20s and 30s, and most reported vaping products they purchased off the road or acquired from friends that contained THC, marijuana's psychoactive ingredient.

The CDC also updated its data on 867 patients found to have substances used in e-cigarette or vaping products three months prior to the onset of illness symptoms. Officials believe a thickening agent used in black market THC vaping products appears to be a culprit.

People who want to quit shouldn't rely on an e-cigarette to help, according to Hill of the lung association. Because of that, the CDC recommendation for everyone to stop vaping stands, she said.

The CDC is still in the process of testing pathologic specimens associated with the patients, including autopsy specimens and lung biopsies. Cigarettes were the most common at 13.7 per cent, followed by cigars, cigarillos and little filtered cigars, which were used by 3.9 per cent of adults.

One CDC study found an increase in e-cigarette waste at San Francisco Bay Area high schools. Officials have accused manufacturers of e-cigarette liquids of marketing their fruity flavors to children and teens.

Juul has also been criticized for the discreet design of its e-cigarette devices, which look like USB drives.

Beyond nicotine addiction, vaping also includes its own set of health hazards, noted Dr. Len Horovitz, a pulmonary specialist with Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City.

There are now four confirmed cases, with one individual suffering from the injury from each of Hawai'i's counties.

Certain flavoured E-Cigarettes, even without nicotine, may change how airways, affected by an allergic disease, function, thus worsening the severity of diseases such as asthma, say researchers.

In addition to individual plaintiffs, who may be seeking damages for injuries to themselves or loved ones, organizations are taking a stand against vape product manufacturers.
