The win at Eibar left Madrid top of the standings with 25 points, two more than Real Sociedad and three more than Barcelona, which hosts Celta Vigo later Saturday. But the Catalan giants bounced back in style, with Messi leading the way with a superb hat-trick.

Barca's captain coolly converted a penalty to put the champions ahead in the 23rd minute.

Sergio Busquets struck a fourth goal in the 85th to round off a first win for Barca in three games, after falling to a shock 3-1 defeat at Levante last week in La Liga and drawing 0-0 at home to Slavia Prague in the Champions League. Both the players have 34 hat-tricks till date.

The Argentine superstar bagged two free-kicks and penalty to claim his 34th hat-trick in the Spanish top fight, equalling the record of Ronaldo's 34 hat-tricks.

"We have a very big advantage, he's the best in the world and also the best freekick taker in the world", Busquets told Movistar about Messi.

"With Messi anything is possible", he said. "Because when you are used to a regular feeling, it forces you to improve". Because of this, the opponent can't commit fouls on the edge of their own box.

Messi was again Barca's savior and his contribution helped produce a score which flatters a side that struggled especially in the first half to produce the fluid football that has characterized their game over recent seasons. If they do, we try to take advantage.

"The important thing was that the team won. The other day we had a painful defeat and we had to win today".

With Real Madrid registering a victory as well, the race for La Liga has become all the more interesting.
