In July, Trump told reporters that he was getting "tremendous complaints about the contract with the Pentagon and with Amazon; they're saying it wasn't competitively bid". President Donald Trump has long criticized Amazon and its founder Jeff Bezos.

"Numerous aspects of the JEDI evaluation process contained clear deficiencies, errors, and unmistakable bias, and it's important that these matters be examined and rectified", AWS said in Thursday's statement.

It is crucial for the country that the government and its elected leaders govern procurements impartially and without any political influence, Amazon said. The project, formally called the Joint Enterprise Defense Infrastructure, or JEDI, pitted leading tech titans Microsoft, Amazon, Oracle, and IBM against one another.

According to CNBC, Amazon, which had been viewed as the frontrunner for the contract, filed a notice in the U.S. Court of Federal Claims on Thursday that said it planned to contest the Pentagon's decision to give Microsoft the cloud-computing contract. Amazon claims that the White House's own bias against Bezos - and his ownership of The Washington Post - was ultimately was drove the decision.

Microsoft faced its dangle inside of complaints after it received a $480 million Military contract in 2018 aiming to present U.S. squaddies "elevated lethality" by equipping them with the company's HoloLens augmented-fact headset.

Secretary of protection Ticket Esper said at a conference excellent week that enhance military AI used to be famous to quit earlier than the Pentagon's essential opponents, China and Russian Federation.

"Some of the greatest companies in the world are complaining about it, having to do with Amazon and the Department of Defense, and I will be asking them to look at it very closely to see what's going on". Its Amazon Web Services division is far ahead of second-place Microsoft in cloud computing, and Amazon has experience handling highly classified government data.

U.S. Defense Secretary Mark Esper has rejected the implication of any political bias in the decisionmaking process.

Microsoft was Amazon's only rival in the final bidding for the winner-take-all contract, despite employees urging it to drop out.

"I am confident that it was conducted freely and fairly without any type of outside influence", Esper said at a news conference in Seoul, South Korea.

Nearer ties with the Pentagon-and the JEDI contract in particular-do some folk within the tech trade miserable. It is created to consolidate the department's cloud-computing infrastructure and modernize its technology systems. One of the biggest ever given having to do with the cloud and having to do with a lot of other things.

AWS accounted for almost $9 billion in revenue in the recently-ended quarter, with growth in the cloud computing unit up 35 percent from a year ago.
