The omitting of his title "Chhatrapati" was compounded by the fact that options A, B and C were listed with their titles - Maharana Pratap, Maharana Ranjit Singh and Rana Sanga. KBC fans feel that while Aurangazeb was given due respect by addressing his as "emperor, ' Chatrapati Shivaji's name written as just "Shivaji" showed utter disregard to him".

The controversy erupted when a question was asked in the show about the contemporaries of Aurangzeb.

FOllowing the outrage, Sony TV apologised for the incident on Twitter and tagged Amitabh Bachhan.

Netizens took to Twitter to demand a ban on KBC for the same. They have also apologized for hurting the sentiments of the people in a statement issued on social media. It had an inaccurate reference to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

The broadcaster added, "We deeply regret the same and being mindful of the sentiments of our viewers have carried a scroll expressing regret during our episode yesterday".

A source close to KBC 11 told the daily, "It was a human error". And this is the reason the apology was aired on Thursday's episode.

Netizens took to Twitter to slam the reality show and to boycott it. The channel's extraordinary apology came after Twitterati trended hashtag #Boycott_KBC_SonyTV on the microblogging site. They started bashing and trolling KBC as well as Amitabh Bachchan for the insult made to the great Maratha leader.
