Plenty of blame to pass around in Jets’ season-opening loss

With the Miami Dolphins getting blown out and the New York Jets and Buffalo Bills scuffling, it looks like the Pats will cruise to another AFC East crown.

But when it mattered most, Allen got the job done in a 17-16 comeback win over the New York Jets on the road.

The early schedule only gets tougher, starting Monday night at home against Cleveland. He introduced himself to the NY crowd with a 17-yard pick-six off Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen in the first quarter. The running back, who sat out all last season in a contract dispute with Pittsburgh, also caught six passes for 32 yards. While the drive stalled after that, Stephen Hauschka drilled a 43-yard field goal to finally get the Bills on the board.

Biggest hole in the game plan: Where was the running game during the first three quarters?

Adversity, you take it and you either run together and run toward each other, or run away. "We understood we still had a shot in the game ... nothing too insane to overcome, we were down one score".

"You always want to say you've done it one time, right?"

Allen finished 24 of 37 for 254 yards and a touchdown, and had one of his two interceptions returned 17 yards for a touchdown by Mosley. Allen was not flawless and made at least three throws that should've resulted in interceptions, but he was ruthlessly efficient when he needed to be in the fourth quarter, completing 8-of-10 passes for 103 yards and a touchdown in the game's final two drives. That was highlighted by a 27-23 win at Buffalo in Week 14 in which he directed a game-winning drive in the final 2:31.

"We have to come out of our double move", Gase said.

New York's sputtering offense was not the only one at fault as kicker Kaare Vedvik's missed extra point after Mosley's touchdown and poorly hit 45-yard missed field goal in the first half loomed large.

About the lone bright spot offensively was Bell's debut with the Jets.

"I don't think many teams can turn the ball over four times in the first half and be down (only) 6-0".

Oddsmakers still have plenty of confidence in the Browns, who are 2.5-point favorites. Buffalo couldn't do anything right but they still are the Jets.

There were several mistakes that are easily correctable in theory for the Browns, starting by not taking ill-advised penalties.

"You gotta give credit to the Bills defense, too".
