Bahamas lists 2500 people missing after Hurricane Dorian

An estimated 2500 people are listed as missing in the Bahamas in Hurricane Dorian's aftermath, the government said today.

Minnis said Dorian impacted the northwest Bahamas' islands for approximately 60 hours, with "the southern eyewall planted over Grand Bahama for about 30 hours". It was one of the strongest Caribbean hurricanes on record and stands as the worst disaster in Bahamian history.

During an appearance with Florida Power and Light executives in West Palm Beach Tuesday, DeSantis said the USA and Bahamian governments were enacting policies "to not facilitate any special migration" by Bahamians whose homes were destroyed by the hurricane.

Jordan, who owns property and frequently visits the Bahamas, says as the recovery and relief efforts continue he will be tracking the situation closely and working to identify nonprofit agencies where the funds will have the most impact.

On September 8, USAID DART Virginia Task Force 1 Urban Search and Rescue teams conducted aerial and ground search & rescue operation in the hard-hit cays surrounding Abaco. Grand Bahama International Airport already is, he said.
