That wish seems to have gone unheeded with Gayle, who turns 40 on September 21, not named in the West Indies squad of 13 for the two-Test series to be played in Antigua and Jamaica at the end of the month.

The only new face in the side is big-bodied spin bowling all-rounder from Leeward Islands Rahkeem Cornwall.

In search of future potentials, Caribbean selectors provided a maiden Test call-up to 26-year old Rahkeem Cornwall.

The southpaw had missed out on an opportunity to go past Lara in the washed-out first ODI against India in Guyana on Thursday, managing just four runs off 31 deliveries before being cleaned up by Kuldeep Yadav. The match was called off after rain played a killjoy.

This will be Chris Gayle's 300th ODI. In June, the 39 year old said he would like to be included in the test squad, despite not playing in the longest format for almost 5 years. "So you have to assess them and play accordingly". "ODIs and T20s are not a problem as he still is a destructive player but Test matches, no, definitely not", the former fast bowler had added. Opening batsman John Campbell is the lone Jamaican in the squad.

The last match of the three-match series will also be played at this series. However, this time around, the trolling seems to be unnecessary as the 30-year-old's caption of the post clearly mentioned that he was late. He can also lend a bit of depth to the batting, so we are looking forward to him coming into the squad and making a valuable contribution, " said Haynes.

"Rahkeem has been performing consistently over a long period of time and has proven to be a match-winner, so we believe his elevation to the Test squad is merited at this time", said Haynes.

"If the team environment is not good, then the kind of game we are playing for the last two-three years, it would have not been possible".

Kohli's domination against the West Indies can be gauged from the fact that he struck four back-to-back centuries against it between July 2017 and October 2018.
