System Shock fans looking forward to the upcoming remake are in for a treat as Nightdive Studios confirmed they're also working on an Enhanced Edition for System Shock 2.

Nightdive Studios is now also working on a remake of the original System Shock. Nightdive briefly announced the game on Twitter and said it's "coming soon", but how it will improve on the original and when exactly it will arrive is anyone's guess.

There aren't any further details than this, but the enhancements will likely be in line with the features planned for Nightdive Studios' System Shock.

Fans of the series cannot only look forward to a re-imagined game but also a full new game - System Shock 3 - set to be released in the future.

Among other things, the studio specializes in projects of this kind, given that it has already produced improved and updated versions of Turok, Forsaken and precisely the same System Shock, a title that launched the career of Ken Levine, author of Bioshock, which was the lead designer.

System Shock 2 celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, and rather fittingly, the developer of the System Shock remake is bringing its sequel into the modern era. It was released back in 1999 for Windows PC.

This may rile some purists, but I wouldn't complain if the Enhanced Edition made changes to more than just the game's graphics.

System Shock 2 was an incredibly important game for the game industry so it's excellent to see it being given some love.
