Hemsworth and Cyrus released a statement on Sunday after eight months of marriage - and it is believed that Cyrus was the one to call it quits.

Hemsworth has since posted a message on his Instagram account confirming their breakup and also denying that he spoke with any tabloid about it.

Liam Hemsworth has spoken out for the first time since his shock split from his wife Miley Cyrus. Ever-evolving, changing as partners and individuals, they have decided this for the best while they both focus on themselves and careers. "I was taught to respect the planet and its process and I am committed to doing the same with my own", she concluded. "Any reported quotes attributed to me are false", he continued.

Speculation about the split has been fuelled by Entertainment Tonight publishing images of Miley, 26, who identifies as pansexual, making out with social media star Kaitlynn Carter at a hotel in Lake Como, Italy, during a girls' holiday.

The Hannah Montana alum and Hemsworth met in 2009 on the set of The Last Song and had a rocky, on-again, off-again relationship before they were engaged in 2012. "Miley and Liam love each other and always will", the source said. This is the person I feel has my back the most.

Fans are resurfacing a pretty uncomfortable red carpet interview Miley and Liam gave at the 2019 Vanity Fair Oscar Party where Miley tries to twerk on Liam, only for him to move out of the way and say 'not on the carpet'.

'But haven't felt they were connecting on the level they were feeling when they got married a year ago'.

"Don't fight evolution, because you will never win", she wrote.

However, another source told People magazine that Cyrus was determined to do anything to make the relationship work.

'Like the mountain I am standing on top of, which was once under water, connected with Africa, change is inevitable'.
