Rookie Daniel Jones is winning over fans in NY, but veteran Eli Manning will be the Giants' starter in Week 1 for the 15th consecutive season.

Florio's evidence? How about this answer from Shurmur from a reporter asking, "Do you like Daniel enough to give him a shot at the job earlier than -". "He's getting better and he's going to do continue to do that so that at whatever time we need him to play, he'll be ready". "We got a couple of weeks left before we play Dallas".

Following Thursday's win over the Cincinnati Bengals, Pat Shurmur praised Jones' poise and toughness while challenging those who disputed drafting the former Duke passer.

"He just has a feel for playing the position", Shurmur said.

Jones played the remainder of the first game and the No. 6 overall pick was 9-for-11 for 141 yards, leading the Giants on one touchdown drive which ended with a Rod Smith one-yard touchdown run.

The Giants coach confirmed on Friday morning that Eli Manning will be the Week 1 starter against the Cowboys on September 8.

So far in three preseason games, Daniel Jones is completing 83% of his passes, over 23-percent higher than other first round quarterbacks Kyler Murray and Dwayne Haskins.
