According to The Hollywood Reporter, Paramount and Hasbro have hired writers Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol) to write a new GI Joe movie.

G.I. Joe is making its way back to the big screen. Joe movie to theaters. Joe franchise to life-the iconic toy line also had a long life as an 80s animated series-following 2009's G.I. Joe: Retaliation, though it appears he won't be reprising that role in what producer Lorenzo DiBonaventura described to /Film late a year ago as a Snake Eyes "origin story".

Snake Eyes, being directed by Robert Schwentke (Flightplan, The Time Traveler's Wife) and written by Evan Spiliotopoulos (2017's Beauty and the Beast, upcoming Charlie's Angels), is scheduled to open in the USA on October 16, 2020.

As the movie is still in the very early stages of being greenlit, not much is known about the plot or characters who will appear. We've known that a Snake Eyes solo film has been on the table for a while, but now a new ensemble film is being developed in the franchise. Joe movies yet - will make an appearance. Marvel made a talking raccoon and a tree popular, so I'm ready to believe that, if done right, nearly any character can work.

Contrast that with Chuckles' strong-but-silent role in G.I.
