Netflix has debuted the first official trailer for an amusing new indie film titled Dolemite is My Name, the latest feature made by acclaimed American filmmaker Craig Brewer (The Poor & Hungry, Hustle & Flow, Black Snake Moan, Footloose). Moore convinces a social justice-minded dramatist (Keegan-Michael Key) to write down his alter ego a movie, incorporating kung fu, automotive chases, and Girl Reed (Da'Vine Pleasure Randolph), an ex-backup singer who turns into his surprising comedic foil. While working at a Hollywood record shop, Moore heard obscene stories about an apocryphal "Dolemite", and soon adopted the persona on a trio of comedy albums, telling sexually explicit stories, typically in rhyme, while in character as Dolemite, a mellifluous pimp and night club owner. He became known as the "Godfather of Rap", with hip-hop artists using parts of his music. But Moore turned himself into a star by morphing into the provocative, cussing, pimping hustler Dolemite who cracked jokes, thrilled women, and slayed bad guys.

"I've got an all-girl army who knows what to do".

Murphy is joined by a star-studded cast, including Luenell, Tituss Burgess, Craig Robinson, Mike Epps, Da'Vine Joy Randolph, Keegan-Michael Key, Snoop Dogg, and Wesley Snipes. This just looks like a seriously good time at the movies, watching another amusing movie about making movies. Dolemite Is My Name is set to premiere at the 2019 Toronto International Film Festival next month and will hit select theaters and Netflix in Fall.
