Disney ‘Certainly Talking’ About an Aladdin Sequel

The new, live-action version of Disney's Aladdin has been a major success for the studio, making over $1 billion at the global box office and now sitting as the fifth highest grossing film internationally for the year.

There were two sequels to the original movie, 1994's "The Return of Jafar" and 1996's "Aladdin and the King of Thieves", which was a direct-to-video animation, but Dan has insisted they would not simply copy those films. So he certainly loved the experience, I think both he and Will Smith - even before the box office success, they said it was the best filmmaking experience of their lives and they had so much fun doing it. But just know that we're looking at a lot of different source material and it's not going to be based on one singular source, but we're going to take the best of everything that's been done before and create something fresh and new.

Aladdin tells the exciting tale of the charming street rat Aladdin, the courageous and self-determined Princess Jasmine and the Genie who may be the key to their future.

"I can't say too much", said Lin. Now they appear to be willing to let history repeat itself with a sequel to the recent live-action Aladdin remake. I rewatched the original 1992 film just three months ago, and I have to say that I loved the new live-action take to the point where - although it has its own flaws - I find it superior to the old film in several ways (which is shocking considering how bad it looked in the trailers).

The live-action "Aladdin" remake, starring Mena Massoud and Naomi Scott, made some big changes from the original and left out some really big moments.

There is a lot of source material to choose from.

Lin confirmed to INSIDER he can't talk about the sequel yet, but that they "feel like there's more story to tell".

Disney released two straight-to-video "Aladdin" sequels in the '90s.

Do you want to see another instalment of the live action Aladdin? "They made this movie by bringing their personality to it".

"Aladdin 2" may be about the return of Jafar.
