The film was originally supposed to open on Christmas Day 2020, but the release date has since been pushed back to December 21, 2021.

Downey Jr. and Jude Law will return to reprise their roles as Sherlock Holmes and his BFF/collaborator Watson, respectively.

Rocketman and Bohemian Rhapsody director Dexter Fletcher is circling the upcoming Sherlock Holmes sequel. They still managed to crank out Sherlock Holmes in 2009 and Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows in 2011. "However, Downey's busy schedule as Iron Man prevented any new filming for the series", which I don't really buy. He also took over the Queen biopic "Bohemian Rhapsody" after Bryan Singer was sacked from the box office smash.

Needless to say that Sherlock Holmes 3 would be another big step forward for his behind-the-camera resume.

Narcos co-creator Chris Brancato is credited as screenwriter with Joel Silver, Susan Downey and Lionel Wigram returning as producers.

Fletcher's "Rocketman", based on the life of Elton John, has made $175.2 million at the global box office since opening in late May. Fletcher is also the director of "Eddie the Eagle" and is a BAFTA nominee for his work on his debut film "Wild Bill".
