Within the final six seasons, now we have seen that the inmates of Litchfield Penitentiary undergo varied hurdles within the jail and if not conquer them, then at the very least expertise them.

At the end of season six, it was revealed that MMC had merged with ICE (Immigration Crime Engagement) and part of the prison would be being used for deportation.

Meanwhile, the rest of the inmates like Taystee (Danielle Brooks) Crazy Eyes (Uzo Aduba), Daya (Dasha Polanco), Nicky (Natasha Lyonne) and others will also be forced to manage their day-to-day lives at Litchfield without Piper while fighting for their own bit of justice. Taystee's friendship with Cindy still hangs in the balance as her life sentence looms, while Gloria and her kitchen staff are confronted by the harsh realities of Polycon's newest profit stream. But Laura appreciates that the Netflix show doesn't sugarcoat real issues that immigrants and people of color battle in America, and she chatted about playing such a character who portrays this struggle in an EXCLUSIVE interview with HollywoodLife.

"I mean, what we can all connect with is that we have all shed something, we've all done something that we regret that we wish we could take back". You don't know. I don't know. "And it's unfortunate. Alex is really smart, but it's just one of those realistic things where, especially now with Piper gone, she's going to have to survive", she said. And sometimes we get those moments and sometimes we won't get those moments.

Although Prepon wasn't able to go too much further into detail about what's in store for her character, she does think fans will be satisfied with how her story line plays out. "Learning how to forgive herself". The final season of Orange Is the New Black will pick up where we left off in the sixth season, with Piper Chapman (Taylor Schilling) released from prison, while many - including Piper's wife Alex Vause (Laura Prepon) - still remain behind bars. The first was when Lorna (Yael Stone) gets a heartbreaking call from her boyfriend Christopher saying they should break up.

Viewers will also be wondering where Sophia (Laverne Cox) is alongside Martiza (Diane Guerrero), Boo (Lee DeLaria) and Yoga Jones (Constance Shulman).

Orange Is the New Black is loosely based on a memoir by Piper Kerman, a Smith College graduate from a patrician family who served 13 months in a CT federal correctional institution on drug-related charges.
